Book Signing a Real Buzz

Apr 3 2011

Just come back from a very successful book signing at Dymocks Book Store in Southland Shopping Centre.
It was a real buzz.
The excellent review that we received in last week’s Saturday Herald Sun Books Section generated positive interest and quite a few people came armed with that and wanting to buy a book.
People from our past lives came to buy and wish us luck. For example, there was Maree, who was receptionist at our local doctor’s when our children were little and there was Margaret who was my colleague when I taught special kids. It is always good to see old friends.
Our four children also drummed up a bit of local interest for us, and some of their friends and their friends’ parents also made a special effort to come and say ‘hello’ and to buy a book. We were only too happy to sign it for them.
As well, quite a number of unknown passers-by purchased copies to take home and read by the fire on a cold winter night in front of us. To them we say, ‘Enjoy the read and tell your friends about the book.’
We spoke to several children were want to be writers and hopefully encouraged them along the way. As well, two of our grandchildren came to see Nan and Pop, with Tjala sitting next to me for a while and helping with the signing.
Jerome, the Franchisee at Dymocks, commented that only a handful of authors have sold more books in a single signing than we did and that includes big names such as Jeffery Archer and Paul Jennings. So that made us pretty happy.
Thank you to Alice and Chuck from Dymocks for all the work you put into the in-store displays and publicity.
Our next event is this Tuesday when we are doing a reading for Sunshine Rotary. This one will be much more slick than the last.
We learn by our mistakes!
